So yesterday was my actual wedding anniversary.  It's our 8th.  According to the conventional wisdom that makes it our bronze anniversary. (or pottery, linens, or lace.)

I didn't know this.  Missy however, did.  While we were away she gave me this beautiful marine life coloring book which had bronze metallic ink on the cover.  But she was far from done.

When I got home from work today, I found this amazing bronze sculpture on my desk.

A couple, embracing.

A couple, embracing.

It's stunningly beautiful, tender, sweet.  It captures in a single moment every way Missy and I feel about each other.  Because it's cast in bronze, it's going to last forever.

Just like us.

So, TMI alert.

I have an app on my phone I can use to post blog entries from anywhere, at any time.

Like when I'm sitting naked, on the potty.

Yep.

I'm right in the middle of reading Reddit while sitting on the potty when I notice that Missy has subtly, almost sneakily turned the little space heater we keep in the bathroom so that instead of pointing at her feet while she does her hair, it points at my feet while I'm well... you know.

This by the way is after she had tucked me cozily in bed, still asleep, while she got up, so I could stay in bed warm, and fast asleep.

See how nice she is to me?

Totally grateful for that, and for her.

So here's the thing about romance. It's unique, kind of like a thumbprint.  Everyone does romance in their own way.  Scratch that, everyone does romance in countless unique little ways.

So last night Missy and I went for a romantic walk near the hotel where we're staying for our anniversary. We went on the Ferris wheel, and out for really good steak.  It was an enormous meal, and we couldn't finish it.

It was awesome and romantic and sweet and great.  We've never really gone away for our anniversary before.

This morning we stumbled on a new way to be romantic. We had a bed picnic with the leftovers.

It was extremely silly and entirely wonderful.

Here's to finding new romance every single day.

My wife Missy and I got married eight years ago. As I told her last night, just before we kissed at the top of a Ferris wheel, it feels more like eight minutes.

We have been through a lot these past eight years  We've made great friends, lost others, been to weddings, and funerals.

We've had fantastic highs and terrible lows. Throughout it all, she's stood by my side and made each memory all the more precious to me.

I have noticed before, more than once, than the vast majority of my gratitude posts are about Missy. I love her, and each day I'm grateful for her. Each day with her we make new and wonderful memories.
